Andromeda Botanic Gardens is pleased and proud to announce that it has twinned with the wonderful Lovell Quinta Arboretum (LQA).
There are some wonderful postwar gardens and the similarities between Andromeda and the LQA are amazing.

WE HAVE TWINS!!!
From the LQA website 'In 1948 Bernard Lovell and his wife Joyce were looking for a place to live in Cheshire...Sir Bernard Lovell's aim was to collect one example of every tree and shrub listed in the then five volumes of W J Bean’s seminal reference work Trees and Shrubs Hardy in the British Isles that would grow and flourish in Cheshire...As the Arboretum was established plants were presented, donated and sourced from a wide range of places, a number being used as features to mark major events in Sir Bernard’s life. He was also meticulous in keeping records including hand drawn plans and a card index for each plant.'
WE HAVE COLLABORATORS!
WE HAVE PARTNERS!
Andromeda became an RHS Partner Garden in 2016 - aa status earned by gardens that have a high standard of planting and design. Andromeda Botanic gardens is the ONLY RHS Partner Garden in the West Indies. https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/GardenDetails/andromeda-botanic-gardens
Meet writer/broadcaster/journalist Amanda Thomas (left) and artist/illustrator Sheri Ann-Marie Nicholls (right).

We have started a wonderful project, aimed at children, following the adventures of Andromona, a monarch butterfly who lives at Andromeda Botanic Gardens. She will visit different plants and it will be a wonderful way to show children and adults some nectar rich plants. Andromona will have her favourite plants, I'm sure. She will meet other animals at Andromeda - some will be her friends, others her enemies! What will she get up to?

Andromona's Adventures will be developed and written about by Amanda. Sheri will do the illustrations.

The Biocultural Education and Research Programme was established officially in 2018 to promote the conservation of plant biodiversity in Barbados through education and research. The nonprofit organization is managed by a board and executive committee headed by Dr Sonia Peter, Chemist and Ethnobotanist practitioner.

With similar aims in respect to the protection and promotion of local plants, and the connection of these to our histories, BERP and Andromeda Botanic Gardens aim to collaborate on the creation of our Ethnobotanical Garden.
